IPS student, who has autism, found a mile away from school; mother demands answers

INDIANAPOLIS — An Indianapolis mother is demanding accountability after her nonverbal, autistic son left school and was later found a mile away in a grocery store parking lot.

Burlinda Tyson said the ordeal began during the school day at Northwest Middle School, part of Indianapolis Public Schools. She said she got a call from school administrators saying her son had bolted out the door, crossed traffic and the northwest side’s busiest intersections.
