Drivers were turned away between Derrill Drive and Columbia Drive while police activity focused near Shamrock Drive. SkyFOX cameras captured multiple squad cars and at least one tactical vehicle clustered at the scene.
According to FOX 5 Atlanta, the news helicopter flew over the corridor just before 6:30 p.m. and spotted the large law enforcement response. FOX 5 reported that traffic was stopped between Derrill Drive and Columbia Drive as a tactical team concentrated its efforts near the Midwood Glen apartments.
Glenwood corridor has seen recent incidents
The latest shutdown lands on a stretch of Glenwood that has already seen more than its share of flashing lights this week. An I-285 shooting near Glenwood Road earlier in the week briefly turned part of the interstate into an active crime scene. Atlanta News First also reported a shooting on the 3800 block of Glenwood Road days earlier, heightening safety concerns for commuters and nearby residents.
