BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. (WKRG) – After rebuilding their inventory that was destroyed by a fire, a local online children’s boutique is preparing to return just in time for the annual Baldwin County Strawberry Festival.
Capital murder verdict reached for first of five suspects in Mobile 9-year-old’s deadly shooting
An electrical fire devastated the Spring Market of Jackson at the Mississippi Trade Mart about three weeks ago, along with it, merchandise from Southern Sweet Pea, a Fairhope-based online children’s boutique.
“My initial reaction was to pray because I knew that it was going to be a really hard day,” Stacy Maddox, the owner of Southern Sweet Pea said. “When you pulled up, you could smell it. We walked in there, soot everywhere on the floor. You could just feel it in the air.”
It’s a day Stacy Maddox said she will never forget.
“Luckily, no one was hurt. That’s the biggest thing. But unfortunately, it damaged everybody,” Maddox explained. “The entire building had smoke damage and unfortunately, all of our stuff had to be destroyed. I had to get rid of everything.”
Faced with tragedy, Maddox said this setback will be nothing compared to their comeback.
“Obviously, we just have to keep the business going. You know it can’t stop,” Maddox said. “We had two markets that weekend. Our goal was to get fully 100% prepared by the Strawberry Festival and we are trying our darndest to do it.”…
