Maryland moves to block Prince George’s County from using park money for its programs

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. — Maryland lawmakers officially put the Prince George’s County Council on notice, inserting a “guardrail” into the state budget to stop what critics call the systematic raiding of tens of millions of dollars meant for local parks and planning.

The move follows a controversial vote by the Prince George’s County Council to shift massive amounts of money from the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC) into a council-controlled administrative fund.
