As restaurants continue to abandon North Broadway, this chain has other plans.

For the past couple of years, restaurants have been deserting the area of North Broadway from Murdock to 13th Street, some citing safety concerns. Among those who have fled: McDonald’s at 1050 N. Broadway and the Popeyes at 1211 N. Broadway (both in late 2023). And next month, La Chinita at 1051 N. Broadway, which has been in business on Broadway for nearly 50 years, is moving to 2615 W. 13th St.

One fast-food restaurant on North Broadway, though, is going a different direction. The Burger King that has operated at 1104 N. Broadway since around 2008 is about to get a major remodel, a Burger King spokesperson confirmed this week. It, along with the Burger King at 418 S. West St., will both get upgrades by the end of this year.

“Burger King is on a mission to modernize restaurants across the U.S., with a goal to have most Burger King restaurants with a modern image by 2028” Luepke wrote in a message responding to questions about building permits recently filed for the two Wichita Burger King restaurants…
