Groundbreaking held for major expansion of senior and veteran housing at Switchpoint Fairpark

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — On Thursday, Switchpoint broke ground for a major expansion of their Fairpark location, something that is planned to add dozens of affordable units for low-income seniors and veterans.

Switchpoint Fairpark first opened in 2023, and phase 2 of the project opened in February 2025. The groundbreaking on Thursday was for phase 3, which will add an additional 76 one-bedroom apartment units. Those units will house previously homeless seniors or veterans.

“We originally have 94 studio apartments for low-income seniors and vets, and we quickly grew to over 400 people on our waiting list, and we decided well, why can’t we just build in the back?” CEO of Switchpoint Carol Hollowell told ABC4.com.
