Multnomah County Commissioners unanimously approves sanctuary ordinance

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – Multnomah County commissioners unanimously approved a plan on Thursday to solidify its sanctuary status.

The binding resolution stops data collection for immigration enforcement and blocks the county from entering federal contracts to operate immigration detention centers.

“Every locality faces this challenge; how do we protect each other from a federal government with seemingly unlimited resources that is determined to dehumanize and attack our immigrant, refugee, and asylum-seeking neighbors, our Latino communities, and frankly all of our communities of color.
