Asheville bus service to change amid I-26 construction closures

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — Several ramps are closing permanently in April and May as part of ongoing construction for the Interstate 26 Connector project, which will also impact Asheville Rides Transit (ART) bus services.

The city details the following ART bus route detours, along with a bus stop closure:

  • Bus routes: WE1, WE2 and W5
  • Detour: Turning right from Patton Avenue onto Haywood Street to I-240 westbound to rejoin the route at the junction of I-26 and I-240

Bus stop 154 at Hill Street and Riverside Drive won’t be in service anymore. The city said it posted a closure sign at the bus stop on April 2.

Due to the closure, the city recommends that passengers use bus stop 311 at the intersection of Atkison Street and Hill Street. For those passengers, take route N3, transfer to your normal route (WE1, WE2 or W5) at the ART station to go westbound…
