Man faces charges tied to Bakersfield thefts and vandalism: BPD

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.(KBAK/KBFX) — Bakersfield police arrested a 29-year-old man on multiple charges Tuesday, related to recent thefts and vandalism that affected downtown businesses and local department stores.

On Tuesday, April 7, 2026, Samuel Smith was arrested following an investigation that began the day before. At around 1:39 a.m., Monday, officers were called to the 800 block of 18th Street for a report of an in-progress theft reported by private security.
