Man used suitcase full of tools to steal copper pipes from Harrisburg church: police

A man living at a homeless camp in Harrisburg used a suitcase of tools to steal copper pipes from a city church days before Easter Sunday, causing about $180,000 in damage, police said.

Nathan Johnson, 48, was arrested Thursday and charged with four felonies in connection with the April 1 burglary at Bethel AME Church on the 1700 block of North Fifth Street.

Bethel AME’s pastor told police that copper pipes, heating and air-conditioning units, a water pump and microwaves were stolen. Through a door that’d been unlocked on the south side of the building, police said they found muddy footprints, a hand saw and a cart holding cut pieces of copper…
