WM opens Indianapolis recycling facility

WM has opened a nearly 125,000-square-foot recycling facility in Indianapolis that is expected to process up to 200,000 tons of recyclables per year, providing vital recycling infrastructure to the state of Indiana.

The WM Indianapolis Recycling Facility is equipped with glass recovery equipment, optical sorters, nonwrapping screens and ballistic separators and is intended to help the region’s recycling programs expand and produce higher-quality material for customers who purchase the recovered materials to manufacture new products.

WM, headquartered in Houston, says its investment in new and upgraded recycling facilities is intended to increase overall recycling capacity and the capture rate of traditional recyclables. The facilities also are designed to evolve to accept materials that are traditionally difficult to recycle, including plastic film, enabling the company to expand the list of acceptable materials WM manages for its customers. These new or upgraded material recovery facilities also allow WM to manage inbound contamination more efficiently and provide opportunities to educate customers on how to recycle right.
