Florida woman dies in hit-and-run crash on U.S. 27 in Leesburg

The Leesburg Police Department is investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash that happened about 12:09 a.m. April 10 near the intersection of U.S. 27 and English Road. Here’s what we know:

What happened in this crash?

According to police, a preliminary investigation found that a gray Hyundai sedan traveling north on U.S. 27 struck a pedestrian.

Who was the victim? Where was she walking?

The pedestrian, Ashleah C. Hayes, 40, was crossing U.S. 27 when she was hit. She was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver left the scene before police arrived.

Hayes was friends with Leesburg City Commissioner Alan Reisman and The Chill Pub on Facebook, and several loved ones have mourned her loss.

Said one post: “All these kids losing their mom so young, it breaks my heart. I’m praying for you. …Rest in peace, Ashleah Hayes.”
