WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – Skywatch Bird Rescue is asking for the public’s help to find and rescue a critically injured brown pelican last seen off Masonboro Island.
The group said it does not have a boat and cannot reach the barrier islands, relying instead on beachgoers willing to safely capture injured birds with guidance and to transport them back to the mainland.
Skywatch said the pelican was reported on the north end of Masonboro Island for much of Friday morning before it was swept into the Intracoastal Waterway. It was last seen trying to paddle back toward Masonboro and needs to be rescued before dark…
