The Iowa City Community School District, amid ongoing budget concerns, has suspended plans to offer district-led before- and after-school childcare.
The proposal was first revealed at a December board meeting to create standalone programs at Alexander, Grant Wood, Twain and Garner elementary schools. The four elementary schools currently offer before-and after-school programs operated by Neighborhood Centers of Johnson County. The district says it will work with the Neighborhood Centers to decide whether it can continue the programs beyond the current school year.
