AUSTIN (KXAN) — On Friday, Savitha Shanmugasundaram’s parents Shan and Selvi sat inside the Sinclair Room on UT’s campus in front of four framed photos of her daughter and their friends.
Savitha was one of three people killed when a gunman opened fire on West Sixth Street on March 1. Fifteen others were injured, including “a number” of UT students, according to the university’s president. Police shot and killed the gunman.
Now, Savitha’s parents are partnering with the university to “keep her legacy alive.”
“As a parent, we have got two choices now,” her father, Shan, said. “Option one is stay on grief mode. The other option is — Savitha lived her life to the fullest, so how do we turn the grief into opportunity for others?”…
