Former LSU head coach Johnny Jones joins Will Wade’s coaching staff

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — It’s official, Johnny Jones is coming back as a coach for the LSU Tigers. This time, it will be as an assistant on Will Wade‘s coaching staff during the 2026-2027 season.

Jones, a DeRidder native, has a long history with the Tigers, including his time as a player, assistant, and head coach. He joins Wade’s staff after spending eight years as the head coach of the Texas Southern Tigers.

“We are pleased that we are able to bring Johnny Jones back home to join our staff at his alma mater,” Wade said. “He knows how special LSU is as a school and how important the LSU brand is. His knowledge of the game and recruiting ability will be an important tool for us as we move this program forward again.”…
