DES MOINES, Iowa — The Animal Rescue League of Iowa says its crews aided in the rescue of more than 20 neglected dogs, including one that had a cast left on for months.
The ARL of Iowa says its Animal Welfare & Response Team responded to southern Iowa on a report of a large group of dogs living outdoors without proper care. Staff says upon arrival, 23 dogs and puppies covered in fleas, dirt, and ticks were found roaming the owner’s property and the surrounding area.
The ARL says the team spread over a wide area and spent around eight hours gathering the dogs and bringing them to safety. Members of the crew report descending into a nearby ravine to bring one of the dogs up to safety.
Of the 23 rescued, the ARL says one dog’s case is particularly shocking. Crews say Kimber was found with one leg encased in an old and dirty cast. According to the team, the odor of infection could be smelled far away…
