Springfield firefighters battle house, RV blazes hours apart

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – Fire crews responded to two fires in Springfield overnight, according to Eugene Springfield Fire officials.

ESF authorities said that, around 9 p.m. on April 9, multiple 911 callers reported a house fire with explosions in the 1300 block of F Street. Engine 4 arrived within five minutes and found heavy fire with flames visible from the front porch and multiple windows. Crews applied water from the outside, but hoarding conditions in the yard and inside the house initially prevented them from entering. Firefighters were able to quickly stop the fire from spreading through sustained exterior water application. Engine 4 and Tower 3 later gained entry through a side door to search for victims and continue putting out the fire.

No one was found inside the house. The person who lived there was taken to a local hospital for evaluation of possible smoke inhalation. The cause of the fire is under investigation…
