Emory students speak out against license plate readers on campus

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — On Friday, Emory University students and faculty gathered to protest license plate readers on their campus.

Across the private university’s property, there are about half a dozen cameras situated on street corners and main entrances to campus. They’re operated by Flock Safety, a technology company that scans license plates to track wanted vehicles tied to criminal investigations.

“I think it’s definitely nice to have that extra level of security,” Emory student Rena Branover said. “Just given the city that we’re in and also, like, the past events in the year, with the shootings.”…
