Eden Prairie unveils federally funded mobile command center

Eden Prairie officials showcased the fire and police departments’ new mobile command center to U.S. Rep. Kelly Morrison and Sen. Amy Klobuchar before Tuesday’s City Council meeting.

The federal government awarded Eden Prairie a $963,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Justice to support the new command center, while the city paid for the remainder of the cost by selling the old vehicle and through the Capital Improvement Funds plan. The mobile command center cost $1.2 million in all.

The new mobile command center provides a more spacious workspace for police officers and firefighters to use in addition to updated technology, including wireless sharing and streaming capabilities, an electronics and communications closet that can support developing technologies and high-definition 360-degree cameras…
