WINDWARD, Hawaii (KHON2) — In Windward Oahu, Kamehameha Highway near Waikane Stream is closed due to hazardous conditions. Meanwhile, residents and businesses are doing their best to stay ahead of the storm.
At Waiahole Poi Factory, sandbags are set up to protect their kitchen from any potential floodwaters from the nearby stream. The restaurant closed a few days last month from flooding. But this time, so far, so good.
“Over here, the rain hasn’t been affecting us right now, but the river, it kinda is at a high rise right now, so we’re just watching the drains,” said Amber Waikiki, Waiahole Poi Factory. “We got all our sandbags ready, ready to go, so we’re good right now.”…
