What Will Happen When Nancy Guthrie is Found?

Additional Coverage:

As the search for Nancy Guthrie enters its eleventh week, experts are weighing in on what may unfold once she is located.

Nancy Guthrie, 84, mother of NBC’s Today show host Savannah Guthrie, vanished from her upscale Catalonia Foothills neighborhood home in Tucson, Arizona. She had been dropped off by Uber on January 31 after spending the evening at her other daughter Annie’s house.

In the early hours of February 1, Nancy was reportedly abducted and has not been seen or heard from since. Savannah Guthrie resumed her hosting duties on the Today show on April 2 amid ongoing concerns.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department remains deeply engaged in the case, pursuing leads and analyzing evidence in hopes of uncovering Nancy’s whereabouts. Should authorities successfully find her, private investigator Lisa J. Ribacoff-Mooney of Interpoint Investigative Services outlined the likely next steps.

Speaking with the Irish Star US, Ribacoff-Mooney explained, “If Nancy is found deceased, proper identification protocols will be followed before the family is notified.” Given the high-profile nature of the case, she anticipates the family will prepare a public statement or press conference before any information is released to the media. “Ultimately, the decision to share details publicly rests with the family,” Ribacoff-Mooney added.

Addressing the absence of any recorded footage showing Nancy’s abduction, the investigator suggested possible technical interference. “There could have been intentional disruptions to internet or Wi-Fi networks, preventing audio and video capture,” she said. Such actions would require specialized expertise on the part of the perpetrator(s).

Ribacoff-Mooney also noted that if the home’s security cameras were damaged or limited to audio-only and Nancy remained silent, the abduction could have gone unnoticed on recordings. She pointed out that Nancy might have been placed in a vehicle and transported out of the area, possibly captured by traffic or neighborhood cameras-though no such footage has been publicly disclosed at this time.

Meanwhile, the Guthrie family participated in a local Arizona TV special, pleading with the community to come forward with any information. The siblings urged residents to review security footage from around January 31 and to report anything unusual that might assist the investigation.

As the search continues, authorities and family alike remain hopeful for answers in this deeply troubling case.
