TRUSSVILLE, Ala. (TRIBUNE) — Planet Fitness is headed to the former Big Lots location at 5903 Trussville Crossings Pkwy, Trussville Mayor Ben Short unexpectedly announced Friday, April 10, during a 9 a.m. discussion at City Hall, then later confirmed on social media, Saturday, April 11. Short said the project would involve a $1.7 million renovation of the commercial space, which has stood empty since 2024.
Short disclosed the project during a public meeting that had originally been called to address concerns over Civic Center memberships for seniors, but later broadened into a wider discussion of development, schools, traffic and other city issues.
