HIGHLANDS COUNTY, Fla. (WWSB) – A controlled burn at Avon Park Air Force Range sent smoke into parts of the Suncoast.
Bob Harrigan reported smoke over Manatee and Sarasota had moved in from a fire in northeastern Highlands County. He said Titan Radar suggested conditions had eased compared with a couple of hours earlier because the smoke plume was no longer visible. It was still smoky near the coast, however.
According to Highlands County Fire Rescue, the Avon Park Air Force Range was conducting a 4,700-acre controlled burn. The agency said residents in Highlands County could see smoke in the area and that winds from the northeast would push smoke to the southwest…
