Chattanooga man charged with attacking an elderly woman, corrections officer on Thursday

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — A man faces several charges after an arrest report says he beat up an elderly woman in Downtown Chattanooga and later punched a corrections officer on Thursday evening.

That arrest report says Chattanooga police officers were called to St John’s Restaurant in Downtown Chattanooga just after 5:30 p.m., after dispatch got several calls about a woman getting beat up on the sidewalk.

Witnesses told officers and dispatch that the suspect, later identified as Christopher Eugene Roberts, had been scared off by a male witness who had come to the woman’s aid, brandishing a gun. That witness chased Roberts toward the courthouse…
