Lee County fourth grader leads national student competition

SMITHS STATION, Ala. (WTVM) – A Lee County fourth grader is closer than ever to being named America’s Favorite Student, and he’s already a top contender.

Nine-year-old Ashton Adams goes to South Smiths Station Elementary. He’s competing in a national online contest and has taken first place in both the top 20 and top 15 rounds. Right now, he’s still holding the lead in the top 10.

If he wins it all, Ashton would meet Bill Nye the Science Guy, appear in Reader’s Digest and take home $20,000 for his future education…
