Ligonier Council Approves Plan Directing Opioid Settlement Funds To Foundation

LIGONIER — The Ligonier Common Council has approved a plan to transfer opioid settlement funds to a local foundation in an effort to create long-term support for addiction treatment.

The council voted unanimously to move forward with the settlement transfer plan, which will direct funds from Indiana’s multibillion-dollar agreement with pharmaceutical companies to the Community Foundation of Noble County. City officials say the partnership will allow the funds to be managed more effectively and distributed as grants to address local needs.

Mayor Earle Franklin recommended the approach, noting that the foundation is better equipped to oversee endowments and ensure sustainable funding.
