April is known for its windy weather and this April is living up to just that. With the Spring migration underway in South Florida, there has been some quality fish caught offshore of Key Biscayne.
Kingfish up to 30 pounds, wahoo, sailfish up to 50 pounds, mahi up to 30 pounds and small and medium size blackfin tuna have all been caught this past week. The catch is you have to be able to get offshore to catch them. The winds have been steady at 20 knots almost all week and seas have been choppy. The bite has been taking place from 80-300 feet of water.
Kite fishing has produced the bulk of the sailfish catches, plus some of the bigger kingfish and Mahi. The key is to have some real good frisky live baits to attract these fish to your hooks. Fishing obvious currents with broken weed lines or slicks have helped when targeting these fish. At times the sailfish have been traveling in small pods so multiple hookups have been possible…
