Lansing apartment fire forces quick evacuation

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Lansing firefighters responded to an apartment fire on the city’s south side late Saturday afternoon that caused residents to evacuate quickly, some without shoes.

The fire broke out around 4:45 p.m. at an apartment complex in the 500 block of Edgewood Boulevard. At least five Lansing Fire Department trucks and two ambulances were on scene, and dozens of residents gathered outside, waiting for updates as crews continued ventilating the building.

One resident told 6 News he saw fire coming from the ceiling before rushing out with his girlfriend and their pets. Another neighbor, who lives in the unit next to where the fire started, said his apartment quickly began filling with smoke. He said he believes the fire may have started on a balcony where a grill was located.

Officials have not yet released information about injuries, how many units were damaged or the cause of the fire…
