Man’s death marks Tennessee’s 5th boating related fatality in 2026

NORMANDY LAKE, Tenn. (WSMV) – The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) is investigating the fifth boating related fatality on Tennessee waterways in 2026 after a man died on April 10.

The TWRA said 21-year-old Ashton Matney, of Lawrenceburg, went out on Normandy Lake in Coffee County to scout for turkeys around the area. At 7 a.m. he reportedly told his fiancé that he was returning to the Barton Springs Boat Ramp.
