Dozens give Saturday to help families access ‘basics’ government assistance doesn’t cover

KANSAS CITY, Kan. (KCTV) – More than 100 volunteers packed hygiene essentials Saturday morning for families who struggle to afford items like shampoo, deodorant, laundry soap, and toilet paper.

The volunteers gathered in Kansas City, Kansas, on April 11, to assemble products most people never think twice about, but that government assistance programs don’t cover.

Caroline Wolverton, a high school volunteer, said it means a lot to know she is helping others her age who need that help.

“I get to help the community and others who aren’t as fortunate,” she said.
