Former Bondurant elementary principal found drunk on school property had blood alcohol level twice legal limit

BONDURANT, Iowa — A former central Iowa principal, allegedly found intoxicated on school property, had a blood alcohol level twice the legal limit, a new report reveals.

An investigation began on March 9 after Bondurant–Farrar Community School District Superintendent Rich Powers contacted the Polk County Sheriff’s Office. Powers picked up former Morris Elementary principal Carrie Ratliff from the school after staff said she was acting “outside of her normal self” and brought her to the district’s office, according to a PCSO field report.

The report states Ratliff denied drinking alcohol but admitted to taking several medications. A preliminary breath test showed Ratliff had a blood alcohol content of .188 — more than twice the legal limit to drive in Iowa. She was then provided a safe ride home, the report said…
