From farming community to Ann Arbor suburb: Pittsfield Township’s past hints at future

PITTSFIELD TWP., MI — Once a rural farming community just outside of Ann Arbor, Pittsfield Township’s population and suburban growth boomed in the late 20th century.

More than 43,000 residents currently call the township home, according to U.S. Census data. Its makeup includes a mix of housing types, from single-family homes to attached condo complexes and apartments. It covers some prominent commercial and business corridors that connect the township to Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti Township, while Saline is just a short drive away…
