Sunday Spotlight: Fayetteville can’t take beloved institutions for granted

A couple of stories we covered last week brought home for me just how meaningful our local institutions are — and how easy it is to assume they’ll always be there.

That reality came into focus on Monday, when Fayetteville Dogwood Festival Executive Director Kaylynn Suarez appeared at a City Council work session to ask for help. She told council members that the festival, while free to attend, is not free to produce and organizers are feeling the pain of rising costs.

“The community support is there, but the bills are going higher,” Suarez told council members. “Things are costing more.”…
