Upcoming storms and warm weather in Iowa

DES MOINES, Iowa — It’s been a breezy and warmer Sunday as promised. Rain is still hanging on in the early afternoon, but will move east of I-35 by afternoon and evening. Amounts Sunday have been light. We’ll then stay dry until Tuesday afternoon, when strong storms may roll in.

As shown in the slideshow above, severe weather chances will be with us late Monday, on Tuesday and Wednesday, and also on Friday. Monday’s late chance looks to be mostly north of the state of Iowa, but we’ll watch to see if a stray storm will make it down to Highway 18 in the vicinity of the stationary boundary shown below.

Better storm chances start Tuesday afternoon and into the evening as a boundary approaches from the west. All modes of severe weather will be possible, with wind and hail being the main threats. We also have a wind and hail threat as scattered storms continue on Wednesday.

We’ll get a break from rain chances Thursday and Friday morning, but then more storms head our way Friday afternoon into the evening. Rain could linger into Saturday morning, when cooler weather will move in. The European model and the Weather Prediction Center both paint heavy rain totals for parts of Iowa by Saturday.

The slideshow above shows upcoming highs, as do the 7-day forecasts below. We’ll be here to keep you updated this week!…
