Chansen Cole pitched into the ninth inning during a stellar start, as No. 17 West Virginia beat Texas Tech, 10-2, on Sunday to win the weekend series.
Cole had allowed just one run through eight innings when he came out in the bottom of the ninth, already over 100 pitches on the day. He failed to record an out in the final frame, but still picked up the win, his fifth of the season. He allowed two runs on eight hits while striking out four. He induced 13 groundouts and stranded eight runners on base.
All three of WVU’s (24-8, 10-5 Big 12) starting pitchers threw at least seven innings this weekend against the Red Raiders (20-15, 6-9). Dawson Montesa pitched seven innings on Friday, and Maxx Yehl threw 7 1/3 on Saturday.
