BERNALILLO COUNTY, N.M. — An inmate at the Bernalillo County Metropolitan Detention Center was found dead at a halfway house while in a community custody program.
Facility officials contacted MDC and reported Saturday afternoon that Witt had been found dead. Medical professionals had responded to the facility and tried saving him but were unsuccessful.
MDC identified the inmate as 45-year-old Andrew Witt. He was booked Dec. 24 into MDC and was sentenced March 24 to the Community Custody Program.
According to MDC, inmates can be placed on CCP while their court case resolves or to serve their sentence, instead of going to MDC itself. MDC corrections officers still oversee CCP inmates to ensure they abide by the guidelines of their release or sentence…
