Two firefighters were injured as crews battled a three-alarm fire in a vacant Manhattan building early Sunday

New York, NY — Two firefighters were injured while battling a three-alarm fire that tore through a vacant building early Sunday morning in Manhattan, prompting a large FDNY response and an exterior firefight due to structural concerns.

The New York City Fire Department confirmed that 192 firefighters and EMS personnel responded to the blaze at 208 7th Avenue, where flames had spread across multiple floors by the time crews arrived.

Heavy fire conditions force exterior operations

Deputy Chief Anthony Arpaia said units reached the scene in just over three minutes but encountered significant fire conditions throughout the structure, including the upper levels.

“Upon arrival, units encountered fire throughout multiple floors of a vacant building, including the upper levels,” Arpaia said. “Members operated from tower ladders to knock down the fire and conduct searches from the exterior due to unsafe interior conditions.”…
