Much of the week ahead will be warm and dry, but there are some storm systems worth noting

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) – For the next several days, rain chances will mostly be low and temperatures will be well above average. But there two distinct storm systems that will bring the area chances for precipitation.

Monday: Warm air will again be in place today. The more humid air to the east will be shifting to the east today. As dryer air moves in from the west and temperatures heat up, there will be a big drop in relative humidity through the day. Relative humidity will drop below 20% across much of central and western parts of the area. Combined with some breezy winds becoming westerly, the wildfire threat will increase. Most of western and central parts of the area will be under a Red Flag Warning from noon to 9:00pm. Far Northeast Nebraska may see some isolated stronger thunderstorms develop early this evening and lift to the northeast. The rest of the area will remain dry. Highs temperatures today will range from the lower 80s west to the upper 80s and lower 90s in the west. A few record highs may be threatened today with the best chance around Lincoln and Omaha where records are 89° in east of those locations. Overnight lows tonight will range from the mid 40s west to the mid 50s southeast.

Tuesday and Wednesday: On Tuesday, southern and southeastern areas will be warm again, getting up into the 80s. Meanwhile, cooler, but still very mild air is expected farther to the northwest with highs in the 70s. There will be some 60s over Western and Northwestern Nebraska. There will also be more clouds northwest than there will be southeast. Eventually, some showers and isolated thunderstorms could get going tomorrow afternoon over northwestern portions of the area. Then, into the evening hours, other scattered showers and thunderstorms may farther up over the eastern half of the area. The chance of severe weather is low, but some small hail and gusty winds will be possible. By Wednesday morning, drier air will be pushing in from the southwest, cutting off the chance of rain other than the far east and the northwestern parts of the area. The rain chance will continue on Wednesday, with the best chance over the northwestern half of the area. Meanwhile, it will be cooler with highs from the mid 60s to the mid 70s from northeast to south…
