Major crash shuts down portion of I-35, closed for hours to remove overhead sign

A portion of a major highway in San Antonio will be closed for hours after a crash forced the roadway to shut down.

The Texas Department of Transportation said in a social media post on Sunday, April 12 that they had to close all southbound lanes of I-35 at New Braunfels Avenue Exit 159 and pine Street, following a major crash in the area. They said the closure is also expected “for several hours to remove overhead sign.” TxDOT shared a photo of the work as it was happening at about 12:30 p.m.

TxDOT did not clarify if the removal of the overhead sign was related to the crash. They also did not share any other information about the crash, what may have caused it, and how many people were involved. There was no mention of any injuries to report from the crash…
