ANN ARBOR, MI — The University of Michigan will award its 1 millionth degree this May during its spring commencement ceremonies, according to an April 13 University Record update.
The moment marks a historic milestone more than 180 years after the university had its first commencement Aug. 6, 1845, with only 11 graduates, the update states.
Nearly 14,000 students are expected to graduate across the Ann Arbor, Dearborn and Flint campuses during the winter 2026 term. The institution conferred 20,043 degrees during the previous year across its summer, fall and winter terms, the Record reported…
