Gone for now? Texas radio station goes silent after decades

A West Texas radio signal that’s been part of the dial for generations has gone quiet.

On April 1, Townsquare Media took Talk 103.9 in Lubbock off the air, ending a 73-year run for KKAM’s broadcasts, citing “economic conditions in the market” in a filing with the Federal Communications Commission, as first reported by Barrett Media.

“Due to economic conditions in the market, the licensee was forced to take the station off the air temporarily,” the filing reads. “The licensee respectfully requests special temporary authority for the station to remain silent. The licensee will promptly notify the Commission when it is able to resume station operations.”…
