United Way donates $4 million to nonprofit programs across Kansas

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — The United Way of the Plains is giving more than $4 million to charitable organizations in Kansas, it announced Monday.

The money was divided among 74 programs in 57 organizations. Each recipient had to apply through the annual Opportunity on the Plains grant. More than 100 applications were reviewed and narrowed down by a panel of volunteers.

The recipients were chosen based on community need.

“Without private philanthropy investing in the social services of our community, I don’t think Wichita would be a place anybody would want to stay, let alone move to,” said Pete Najera, president and CEO of United Way of the Plains. “So we’re very grateful for the generosity of our donors that can help us do things where business and government can’t.”…
