WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Habitat for Humanity in Wichita is joining branches across the country by honoring the first American-born pope.
The nonprofit announced Monday that it is building Pope Leo Village in northeast Wichita. Construction is expected to begin in July. The project will transform eight public housing properties near 26th and Ash streets into a neighborhood.
Eight families who complete Habitat’s homeownership program, and help complete the new homes, will be able to buy them.
