EAST FLATBUSH, Brooklyn (PIX11) — Two people were killed, and a firefighter was injured in an overnight apartment fire in Brooklyn, officials said.
The fire broke out just after 11 p.m. Monday on Kingston Avenue between Lefferts Avenue and Empire Boulevard in the Wingate section of Brooklyn.

Neighbors said they were awakened by smoke and flames. “By the time I was opening the door, I realized I was smelling smoke,” said Karen, who lives in the building.
Firefighters responded to the third-floor blaze and worked to evacuate residents from the building. “Once I came outside, I realized it was on one side of the building. And it seemed like it was contained. I don’t know how great the fire was, but there was a lot of smoke,” Karen said…
