Folly Beach considers water and sewer fee increase

FOLLY BEACH, S.C. (WCSC) — Folly Beach City Council is considering increasing water and sewer tap and impact fees after a study revealed they are lower than those in surrounding areas.

A 5-year rate study by consultants compared Folly Beach pricing to surrounding areas as well as current and proposed rates. The ¾-inch total water tap and impact fee was $1,375 and would be brought up by $1,950 in tap and by $175 in impact fees for a new total of $3,500. The sewer would stay the same.

Mayor Chris Bizzell said the city had not looked at water rates for about 10 years.

“It was just time to kind of look at how our costs were, how we were going to be able to cover any infrastructure changes that kind of thing,” Bizzell said. “So we can keep the system moving forward and also well-maintained.”
