STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Rep. Nicole Malliotakis recognized winners of the annual Presidents’ Day Essay Contest at her Staten Island and Brooklyn offices, celebrating students who shared their ideas for improving their communities.
Elementary students in grades 3 through 5 from New York’s 11th Congressional District, which includes Staten Island and part of Brooklyn, submitted essays describing what they would do to improve their community if they were president of the United States. The contest drew record participation this year.
“This year our office received more submissions than ever that showcased the talent, creativity and civic pride of students across Staten Island and Brooklyn,” Malliotakis said. “I was delighted to read their thoughts on a variety of issues including healthcare, homelessness, litter, affordability and animal welfare and am proud to recognize this year’s winners for their outstanding work.”…
