Man in custody after battery report leads to standoff in Waynedale

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – A man accused of battery is in custody Tuesday after a standoff involving SWAT in a Waynedale neighborhood.

The Fort Wayne Police Department confirmed officers responded to a report of battery at a house off Bluffton Road. The FWPD activity log shows the battery was reported shortly after 10 a.m. Police swarmed the 2600 block of Corvalis Avenue.

Sgt. Jonathan Cutler said officers had been trying to get a man and a woman to come out of the house. Witnesses said the man had grabbed the woman in a headlock and dragged her into the house, prompting reports to police. The standoff ended when they both eventually came out of the house shortly before 12:30 p.m.

Witnesses also said a toddler was in the home during the assault. The man could face a felony charge of domestic battery in the presence of a child less than 16 years old, Cutler said. The woman’s condition was not confirmed…
