Sacramento teacher sues district over carpet removal discipline

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A Sacramento teacher is suing her school district and its board, alleging she was wrongfully punished after removing a classroom carpet.

Jeanine Rupert filed the lawsuit against the Sacramento City Unified School District following an incident last spring, when she pulled up a carpet in her classroom with help from fifth grade students.

Rupert claims the carpet was flea-infested and frayed, and that the district had previously rejected her requests to have it removed…
