WEST BOCA RATON, Fla. (CBS12) — A Boca Raton man was issued a notice to appear on a misdemeanor battery charge after Palm Beach County sheriff’s deputies said he threw a water bottle that struck a 13-year-old boy and knocked the boy’s cellphone from his hand during a confrontation inside the Lotus community in west Boca Raton.
Mitchell Schuman, 62, was charged with one count of simple battery, listed in court records as “touch or strike,” according to the arrest and probable cause documents. He was not taken into custody and instead was issued a notice to appear in court on May 7 at the South County Courthouse in Delray Beach.
The incident happened April 3 near Paradise Bay Avenue and Five Waters Avenue in the gated Lotus development, where deputies were called to investigate a battery report. According to the probable cause affidavit, Schuman told deputies he had seen the boy doing wheelies on an e-bike on the main road of the community and asked him to stop and go with him to security.
